There was a time when these jewellery pieces occupied the
place of pride in every women's collection. The art form enjoyed royal
patronage what with the maharajas wearing them on all royal occasions and the
maharanis decked from head to toe in these exquisite pieces.
In fact the carving for adorning oneself goes back to the start
of civilization when primitive man used flowers, beads, bones and shells to
make jewellery.Over the ages the materials used for making jewellery have
changed from stone and bones to semi- precious stone followed by the silver
finished gold finished, Kundan polki and American Diamond.
Indian jewellery has a rich heritage of designs and stone
settings. Apart from the fact that they enjoyed royal patronage, these are some
of the oldest form of jewellery setting in India.
Most of these art forms hail from the states of Rajasthan and Gujarat
where the rulers patronized the craftsmen excelling in these forms of jewellery
settings.
